Skincare before makeup

What is the first thing you notice in somebody?
Most people will say it’s the face. So I need not elaborate on the importance of good skin here because it’s the main reason I find you on this site. So what makes beautiful skin? It’s the intermixing of genes, stress, skin care, hormones, products, what we eat, and whatnot. It’s a complex process to look good. It’s so complex that even actresses take 2 hours to get ready for a shot even after a team of beauticians, DOPs, makeup artists, yoga trainers, and a lot more.
Patience is Key!
One more aspect of skin care is that a lot of R&D takes place before finding the perfect skincare for oneself. What works for somebody may not work for you. You may sometimes find a boon for your skin for life and sometimes you may not mind one. So for someone who has been a skincare enthusiast for life, I am here to make your life a tad bit easier by reviewing skincare products and helping you with your regimen. I am no dermatologist but you can treat me as a friend and you can take my advice with a pinch of salt.

Exfoliate the inner you!One more aspect of skincare is that it is the perfect canvas for makeup. The better your skin is, the better your makeup will look. Isn’t it paradoxical guys? So your major mantra should be “Skincare is everything”. Even a 5-minute makeup look will look like you have put in a lot of effort with the right skincare application.
We have many times believed in myths of skincare and followed them religiously. There have been many times when our friends or relatives have suggested us something for our skincare and it turned to create havoc on our skin. So let’s delve deeper into this and find out more.
Myth 1: Cleansing four times a day helps our skin
Reality: Cleaning multiple times a day strips our skin of the essential natural oils of our skin barrier and disrupts the natural pH of our skin which is 5.5. So the ideal number of times you need to wash your face is twice( once when you wake up and once before bedtime).
Myth 2: Physical exfoliation is best for skin
Reality: Hard physical exfoliation like walnut scrub( which were a must to have in your routine in past) and other abrasive scrubs deteriorate the skin barrier and make it susceptible to damage. Gentle chemical exfoliation like 2% salicylic acid,10% lactic acid, 7% glycolic acid and 10% mandelic acid would be your best bet for exfoliation one to two times a week. Just make sure to slather a good SPF 50 sunscreen the next day.
Myth 3: Chemical sunscreen is better
Reality: I know it is a lot overwhelming at first but it will all be in the skin after you read up a lot on skincare. Physical sunscreen has two major ingredients: zinc oxide or titanium dioxide or both. These tend to give cosmetics products a white cast on your skin after applying which is why many people don't like it. But these are great for sunscreen because they tend to reflect the sun rays than absorb them. Chemical sunscreen absorbs the sun’s rays which is why in the long run they aren’t good for Indian skin. You have to keep your skin cool than hot.
Myth 4: It is possible to lighten your skin shade
Reality: I cannot reiterate this further but you cannot lighten your skin in any case. You just need to embrace your skin shade. Please love yourself ladies because there is nobody like you. People will lower your self-esteem, belittle you and taunt you for your skin shade because they think you care. Let them know you don’t care about it. Your goal should be to get glowing juicy skin than to lighten it.
Myth 5: Doing a half an hour skin care regimen a day will pull you out of all your skin problems
Reality: Less is more. Yes ladies, don’t go overboard with all the steps of skincare. It just takes 10-15 mins at a time for cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. And loads of SPF 50 in the day will help you in the long run. You all must have heard the phrase: “Prevention is better than cure”. Sunscreen reduces the time you see aging spots and hyperpigmentation in the skin. It will happen but it will happen at a slower rate.
Hi folks! This is one question that many times runs in our minds. So what is the best skincare routine? To our dismay, there is no one size that fits all. But this post will help you all with the basics.
Cut to the chase, there are 5 major steps to a skincare regimen:
Cleansing- After a long day who loves the feeling of all bare skin at night? We all do, isn’t it? Skincare junkies will understand how good it feels removing all the sunscreen and makeup from our faces at night. cosmetics products It’s the same feeling as getting in our PJs. Without further ado, we need to follow the double cleansing method at night. First with an oil-based cleanser and then a regular face wash.
Toning: Toning helps to remove any impurities if left on the skin and paves way for the next step of exfoliation.
Exfoliation: I thoroughly believe in chemical exfoliation over physical one. So at this step, we can go for mild salicylic acid or lactic acid, or glycolic acid exfoliation.
Moisturizing: Any good moisturizer with a good blend of humectants, peptides, and ceramides will work best for this step.
Facial oil(optional): If you sleep with AC on or if you have dry aging skin this step will work wonders for your skin. Try it to know it. And good facial oil according to your skin type will work great.
Lip balm: Last but not the least, I swear by a layer of vaseline on my lips. It rejuvenates your lips and gives you baby lips the next day.
We have always heard since the time we got familiar with skincare that natural is better and to our surprise, we have always believed in it. Whenever we saw any product with “organic”, “sourced from naturalingredients”, or “100% natural with no added preservatives” we were allured by the product description to buy it. We can even remember from our childhood days applying lemon juice, tomato, and whatnot in the name of nature on our faces. But the times have changed and as we have gained knowledge we know now that natural is not always better.
REVOLUTIONISE AND INNOVATE WITH PALMIST
The reasoning that goes behind “natural is not always better” is that whatever is present in the world has a chemical name and there is chemistry behind it. Even water is H2O in chemistry but does it make it bad? No, right. Even preservatives are good because you need them in skincare to preserve it for the long term otherwise who will use them? The only thing bad in skincare whether organic or inorganic is fragrance. The fragrance comes under the disguise of names like citronellol, limonene, geraniol, linalool, essential oils, etc. They create sensitivity in people with weakened skin barriers and in the long run, can lead to contact dermatitis.
So when you remember your grandma telling you to apply “raw milk” on your skin to make it glowy it was nothing but lactic acid. Nowadays, lactic acid comes in different brands as chemical exfoliators. But raw milk won't be potent enough to give any result on your skin. Instead 10% lactic acid once or twice a week will give better results. One more thing I remember was applying lemon juice to the skin. I won’t deny the fact that I used it as a child but now I steer clear of natural pantry products on the face. Lemon juice can make your face photosensitive and can irritate the skin to the extent of reddening it. This can give you hypersensitivity and hyperpigmentation. So it’s better to apply 10% ascorbic acid which is made for skin to give better results.
So I hope I was able to bring the point home that you should not get duped by the marketing of skincare and secondly look into skincare ingredients. I would create a blog soon that which routine should be followed for different skin types. So till then stay tuned.
